I'm with you on the control Ray! I just stopped investing in the market last month. I am investing in myself (Commericial Real Estate and my business). It took me a while to get over the traditional ways of investing in stocks, bonds and mutual funds. I don't know why I have been investing in my IRA all these years letting some mutual fund manager control my financial destiny. I think people put money in the stock market because it's easy and it's conventional wisdom that they will receive a 10% rate of return over the long run. At the very least people should diversigy beyond stocks and bonds and buy assets that they control
