No REL is needed or desirable for just buying and selling for yourself. And as a RE Broker I'd not be at all interested in having you on-board if you weren't going to be hustling to list, sell, take floor duty, etc.
I would recommend you go to a local area REI seminar or two so you can catch up on TX law on flipping, selling on REC or Lease/Options as TX law has been tightened up on all this in just last 2 or 3 years.
Thinking about it, maybe the best intro course you could take would be the new REA lic. course so you could learn about current TX laws and a lot about how RE is bought, sold, optioned, etc.
Your taking the course wouldn't obligate you to get the REL but you could then choose whether to take the exam and get the REL or not.
