Dividing a commercial space

I have a vacancy in a strip mall in North Carolina ..., vacant for about 8 months @ market rates, 2700 sq ft., in a B+ unit. We are now discussing splitting the space. Should I consider the division or lower the rent until I can rent the entire space? What are the pros and cons from an experienced viewpoint. Also has anyone done an "emporium" type splitting with one entry/exit with 2 different businesses? What are the potential pitfalls? It seems a good idea with less customization although you would have to find compatible personalities & businesses. Personalities? Probably a bad idea. Thanks for any thoughts.
